Operations is first an important part of any kind of business because it involves the responsibility for producing all the good and services to keep one in business. Services include the location and or psychological value of a place while goods are the physical items that are being sold and or made. Operations function exist in both manufacturing and assembly operations, which are in areas such as retailing, food, health care, transportation, etc. There are four areas of operation functions that include purchasing, distribution, industrial engineering and maintenance. Purchasing has the responsibility for procurement of supplies, materials and equipment. Maintenance is the general repair of anything in the buildings. Distribution is the shipping of goods to warehouses, outlets and customers. Operations manager job is to help guide the system by their decision making. “Hence, operations management is the management of systems or processes that create good and/or provide services.” (Stevenson, Operations management 2021) The decisions that an operations manager makes include the what, when, where, how and who questions. These decisions are made to affect an entire organization which is why it is important to make well informed decisions.
