On August 24, 2022, President Biden announced that he would take executive actio

On August 24, 2022, President Biden announced that he would take executive action to enact his Student Debt Relief Plan. According to the New York Times: “The plan…includes forgiving up to $10,000 in loans for individuals earning $125,000 or less and an additional $10,000 for borrowers from low-income backgrounds who received Pell Grants in college.” There is currently more than $1.5 trillion in student loan debt in the United States. President Biden’s proposal would relieve nearly a third of that outstanding debt, costing taxpayers an estimated $500 billion to cover those costs.
Suppose that you are an economists who has been asked to write a short argumentative essay on this topic. The question your essay should answer is: “Is President Biden’s Student Debt Relief Plan a good idea?”
Your grade will NOT be determined by whether I personally agree with you. Rather, it will be determined by how well you apply economic insights, properly cite reputable sources to support your arguments, and follow the formatting guidelines outlined below. As is often the case in complex policy debates, reasonable people can disagree about what is the right course of action. My job isn’t to teach you *what* to think, but rather *how* to think – in particular, how economics can help make you a more informed citizen. Once I’ve completed my grading, you will be able to see your grade and my feedback on your submission by clicking the “comments” link on your submission (you should also receive a notification that I’ve left a comment on your submission if you have notifications enabled for Moodle).
FORMATTING GUIDELINES: Your essay should be *at least 600 words* (maximum 1,000), single-spaced in Times New Roman font, size 12. Please be sure that your name, course section number, date are listed on the first page on the top left corner. You should also include a title for your op-ed at the center of the page. Upload your essay below where it says “Add Submission” as either a word document (.docx) or a PDF (.pdf). Be sure to save the name of your Word Document or PDF with your Last Name followed by the debate topic (e.g. a student named Jane Doe would submit a document entitled: Doe Student Debt). If you reference any articles or sources, be sure to cite them using *APA format* in a bibliography/references section at the end of your document (a good rule of thumb for a well-researched op-ed is to cite *at least* reputable 3-5 sources). I will be running each submission through the plagiarism scanner software, so be sure not to steal anyone’s work or use ChatGPT.
I’ve attached a link below to a sample op-ed that you can use to give you an idea of what the formatting, style and references should look like. (Bear in mind this op-ed was written for a different debate topic on the Covid stimulus package that was being debated by Congress two years ago, but the formatting is the same as what I am looking for here.)

1. Describe the “Doughnut Model” of Sustainability. (From the “Safe and Just Space for Humanity” reading)
2. According to the Doughnut Model, we are above or close to the environmental ceiling on biodiversity loss, climate change, and the nitrogen cycle.
Use the Living Planet report reading to summarize the current state of one of these 3 topics.
3. Describe the Systems Thinking Iceberg Model, defining each “level” of the iceberg.
4. Use the Iceberg Model to discuss the topic you chose from #2 above. The topic will be placed at the “event” level, and you will describe the patterns, structures and mental models for that topic.
Grading Expectations:
Include at least 2 references to course materials (readings, videos, etc) Cite the Author’s last name and pg. number next to each reference. Example: (Brinn, 91) when using a reading by Brian Brinn on page 91)
include all aspects of the assignment.
Technical considerations (spelling and grammar)
Effectively develop examples of your own life experience to illuminate concepts of the topic of study. ( for this one i don’t mind if you put your own experience )
These are all the links that you would need:
